RESEARCH
We strongly believe in the importance of research that produces reliable findings. To maintain quality in our research, we work closely with other individuals and organisations like NIMHANS, the World Health Organisation and the University of Southampton, among others.
Three major research studies have been completed. They are briefly are as follows:
· Socio-Economic Determinants of Care of Infants and Feeding Practices
A prospective study of infant feeding practices which documented the reasons for growth faltering and evaluated the effect of nutritional counselling. The results of this study should make it possible to design more effective infant feeding schemes nationally and internationally. This project was funded by UNICEF.
· Exploration of Socio-Cultural Determinants of Obstetric Care and Maternity Outcomes
This study examined the effect of beliefs and practices on healthcare use and illness during the child-bearing period and was funded by the World Health Organization.
· Life-values - A Study of Reproductive Health and Sexual Behaviour among Adolescents
This study explored aspects of reproductive health and sexual behaviour among adolescents in the Kanakapura schools. It was funded by the NIMHANS Small Grants Programme.
Findings from all these studies have been published in local and international journals and presented extensively to groups in India and abroad. Our hope is that these findings will inform policy at all levels.
